The last day ...

Image
The last day. One month flew by and so many feelings. A lot of gratitude to all the friends I've met here Silvie, Patrick, Jutta, Judy, Warren, Sara Jane, Rob, and especially my teacher these last two weeks Ana Sofia Castella one of, if not the best, teachers I've ever had. Montevideo is an enigma in a way. The local people are unusually kind, at least have been to me, very easy to know, and yetbthe city is in so much need. There are a great many homeless and the streets are cluttered with litter, which makes the experience so mixed. I will take away a lot personally. I want to have this experience again, soon, and I'm thinking Cusco, Peru. Today's final lesson Sofia concluded with a song from Jorge Derxler, Uruguayan songwriter and performer, with Emmys, an Oscar, and other awards and accolades (super interesting life). The song was Todo se Transforma and the chorus ends with Cada uno da lo que recibe Y luego recibe lo que da Nada es más simple No hay otra norma Nada s...

Oye Como Va?

Oye cómo va  Mi ritmo  Bueno pa' gozar  Mulata   That’s it, all the lyrics to the great Santana song, a 2 chord tune (A dorian mode, key of G says someone). For years I’ve wondered what they were singing about (something like):  Hey how goes it  My rhythm  Good for having fun,  Mulatta Awesome. Had to come to Uruguay to look it up   ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There are trash bins on fthe street every few blocks. The middle one was on fire the other day. No one seemed to mind.  Buses can be incredibly crowded  Words from lessons, in real life, oferta - offer  Before the symphony I wanted to try a Peruvian dish while I was here and this place seem like a good spot to try chaufa which is a Peruvian version of fried rice. I read about chaufa and how good it is in Peru so why not.  Well this chaufu was not so great, it was edible but it lacked some ingredients that typical chaufa...

Day 15

Image
Published out of order, This should be the 26th day - blogger is not great for managing posts. I'm feeling more comfortable here (as Finghín said I would). I used the bus system today for the first time and Swiss born Judy was the only taker of the group to join me on my experience. We met in Ciudad Viejo and I was hungry so we went to a very nice restaurant where I got Desayuno Americano snd it was nothing like an American breaky🤣 Ot was good and the place had a cool vibe. We went next by bus to Estradio Belvedere where my favorite Uruguayan futbol team, Liverpool FC, Los Negros de la Cuchilla, play. The name roughly mean The Black Blades. But one friend said it meano"The Hooligans" 🤣 We could not get into the stadium and to ne honest, it's in a really rundown part of tge coty and the stadium itself nakes any highschool stadium look like SoFi. They are moving to a new stadium in 2027 so hopefully it will nice and shiny like this on eas when ...

Day, um ... I leave this Friday

Ok, I think I'm a day behind so this will cover yesterday and today. Yesterday was Sunday and that was the trip to Faria Tristan y Navarja, a huge, like 10 square blocks, of street vendors selling everythig from fruit and veg, fish (as in pets, not food!), clothing (new and used), muchas comidas, goth singing lady, animal balloon dude, plants, kitchenware (new and old), books (new and old), crazy everything. To say it was crowded is like saying the Titanic is a boat. And it was so hot there was no threat of an iceberg sinking the event. I managed to buy a couple of gifts but was really conflicted. What to buy people? If I buy what I think friends will like, well I could be wrong. If I buy what I think is cool, I could still be wrong. So I decided to buy what I think is cool, but it has to be unique and original, that way even if the gift isn't cool in the eyes if the reciever, at least it will be cool because you can't get it anywhere else, right? I let one perfect gift get...
